I Thought We Were Over This.

Great. FTB is at it again. Trawling forums and comment sections for evidence against the undesirables. For a group of people so disgusted with the Slyme Pit, I'll never understand why they spend so much time there.

This time, it's Al Stefanelli in trouble again, with his whole, wild "sharing public information isn't doxxing" theory. Somehow this contributes to his blatant racism, I'm sure.

A little disappointed in Ophelia. Actually, I'm not. After our conversation on twitter where she agreed the knee-jerk reaction of banning "tone trolls" when they ask questions or offer dissenting viewpoints was harmful, she continued to do just that on her blog. Now she's retweeting Justin Vacula's defense of Stefanelli to garner attention and stir the pot again.

We should have known. It had been too quiet for at least a week from that camp. I'm surprised they left the world open to such things as harsh criticism and valid questioning for so long. Anyway, looks like their back on the job.

It's funny, when I have a fallout with someone on a social network, I stay away from them. I don't peruse their tweets and comments and then call them stalkers. Just something I do for my own piece if mind. Funny that other grown adults haven't got that yet. We can't just agree to disagree here. Every imagined injury must not go unpunished. I thought we were over this.

  1. Like I said before, Freethought Blogs manufactures controversy just so they can get more ad revenue from the increased traffic. They're essentially the Fox News of the atheist community.

    1. Doesn't seem to be working as well as it used to for them: http://skepticink.com/debunkingchristianity/2012/11/19/the-declining-stats-of-freethought-blogs/

  2. Their approach seems to be working for them, so I'm not expecting them to abandon it anytime soon. This group was well-represented among the speakers at Skepticon, leading me to question whether reports of their demise were premature.

    1. The turnout of that group at Skepticon was pretty high, but I think that may be the last of the freethinker conventions that will have a high number from their ranks. It isn't surprising that they were featured as speakers because many, like PZ and Watson, have been there from the early days helping establish it as a large conference. That may garner them more exposure and keep them around longer, or it might be a sign that they are running out of places to stand on their soapbox. We will see.

  3. Al Stefanelli is a blatant racist? Ha. I guess my Black ass shouldn't be good friends with him. That being said, I FULLY agree with this, "when I have a fallout with someone on a social network, I stay away from them. I don't peruse their tweets and comments". I will never understand people that do this. I block them in every way I can and leave them alone. If they want to obsess over me, I won't reciprocate.

    1. I heard it was the fedora that just screams "racist rape apologist."

I'm always so grateful when they point these things out for me so I can remember what a weak, helpless woman I should be in the face of such manly fashion sense. /sarcasm :)

  4. Well since it seems to be a question of maturity then it doesn't surprise me. I'm too old to give a crap if someone doesn't like me or disagree with what I say. The last time I cared was when I was in my twenties and in college.

I have work to do, bills to pay etc....

    1. Shit. In twenties, check. In college, check. I'll have to give a crap a little longer. ;)

  6. The question is not whether Opie Benson stirs the shit, the question is whether she uses her witch's cauldron to do it.

  8. I read this earlier today and tweeted the link. It's an excellent post and the term "professional wailer" is so perfect for what goes on there!
